Water: A Precious Resource (Smart IoT Water Distillation & TDS Plant)

Source:

Turn salty water into pure drinking water! Construct a solar distillation still equipped with a PTC heater and condensation glass. Analog TDS probes monitor dirty input water (1,200 PPM) vs pure distilled water output (15 PPM).

Categorisation

Props & Materials Required

  • Solar distillation chamber box with sloped glass roof
  • Safe low-voltage PTC heating element (simulates intense sunlight)
  • 2x Analog TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) sensor probes (Input vs Output water)
  • TS-300B optical turbidity sensor
  • ESP32 controller board with 16x2 LCD screen
  • DFPlayer Mini MP3 module + 3W speaker

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Pour Salty Water into Distillation Tray

Pour salt/muddy water into the bottom tray. TDS probe reads '1,200 PPM (UNSAFE TO DRINK!)'.

2

Turn ON Solar PTC Heater

PTC heater heats water to 55°C. Water evaporates as clean steam, condensing on sloped glass roof.

3

Collect Distilled Water Drops

Pure condensed water droplets slide down into the clean collection beaker.

4

Purity Telemetry & Audio Report

Output TDS probe reads '12 PPM (PURE DISTILLED DRINKING WATER!)'. Speaker explains how the natural water cycle cleans ocean water!

Why It Works & Notes

Evaporation leaves salt/pollutants behind, while condensation produces pure distilled water (mirroring the natural water cycle). Using dual TDS probes to measure real-time water purity proves how solar stills produce drinking water.
