Students create physical cardboard flashcards with small foil touch-pads. Using crocodile clips connected to the micro:bit, touching a card triggers a Scratch animation on the projector that visually demonstrates the word — like an animated bird flying.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Make the Flashcards
Cut cardboard into card-sized pieces. Write a word on each card (Bird, Rain, Sun, Cat). Stick a small square of aluminum foil on the corner as a touch-pad.
Wire the Cards
Use crocodile clips to connect each card's foil pad to a different pin on the micro:bit. The child holds the ground clip in one hand.
Program the Animations
In Scratch, create animations for each word: 'Bird' → a bird flies across the screen. 'Rain' → raindrops fall. Program the micro:bit to send the correct signal when each pin is touched.
Touch and Watch
The child touches the 'Bird' card — and on the projector, an animated bird flies across the screen! They touch 'Rain' — and it starts raining on screen!
Spelling Challenge
Scatter letter cards instead of word cards. The child must touch letters in order to spell a word. If they spell C-A-T correctly, a cat animation appears!
Why It Works & Notes
Multimodal literacy at its finest — blending tactile motor skills with digital visual vocabulary. Touching a physical card (kinesthetic) and seeing an animated demonstration (visual) creates stronger word-meaning associations than reading definitions alone.
