The Hungry Bot: Healthy vs. Junk Food

Source: Stemoto Original

Spread food tokens on a large floor mat. Code or manually drive a bot to 'eat' (collect) only the healthy foods (fruits, vegetables) while navigating around the junk food obstacles. A gamified approach to health and nutrition concepts.

Props & Materials Required

  • Botley 2.0 or remote-controlled mBot
  • Printed or laser-cut food tokens (fruits, vegetables, pizza, candy, etc.)
  • Large floor mat or chart paper
  • Small basket attachment for the bot

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Set Up the Food Map

Spread food tokens randomly on a large floor mat. Use green tokens for healthy foods (apple, carrot, milk) and red tokens for junk food (chips, candy, soda).

2

Attach the Basket

Tape a small paper basket or cup to the front of the bot. This is the bot's 'mouth' that will collect the food tokens.

3

Plan the Route

Before coding, the child must visually plan a route that hits all the green tokens while avoiding the red ones. Discuss: What is the most efficient path?

4

Code and Drive

Program the bot (or use the remote control) to follow the planned route. The bot 'eats' the healthy food by pushing it into the basket.

5

Score and Discuss

Count the tokens collected. Healthy food = +1 point. Junk food accidentally collected = -2 points. Discuss why each food is healthy or unhealthy. Play again to beat the high score!

Why It Works & Notes

This project gamifies health and nutrition concepts while developing spatial orientation and basic logic. Children must plan a route that collects healthy foods while avoiding junk food — combining sequencing skills with EVS curriculum on healthy eating.

NEP Alignment: Gamifies health and nutrition concepts while developing spatial orientation and basic logic. Curriculum Mapping: EVS (Food, Healthy Eating Habits). Target Level: Class 1 & 2.
