So Many Toys and Puzzles! (Smart Tally & Bar Chart)

Source:

Children scan NFC-tagged toys into categories. An LED bar graph builds up live as each toy is scanned, creating a real-time physical-digital bar chart.

Categorisation

Props & Materials Required

  • Mixed pile of toys (balls, cars, blocks, soft toys)
  • Grid poster paper
  • Picture stickers or colored paper squares

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Sort the Toys

Group toys into categories (Cars, Balls, Blocks).

2

Scan Each Toy

Tap each NFC-tagged toy on the reader. Speaker announces: 'Car scanned! Cars total: 3!' A new LED lights up in the Cars column.

3

Live LED Bar Graph

Three vertical LED strips (one per category) build up as toys are scanned — creating a glowing real-time bar chart.

4

Analyze the Data

Speaker asks quiz questions: 'Which category has the MOST toys? Look at the tallest LED column!' 'How many toys in total?'

Why It Works & Notes

Data handling begins with sorting and counting. An auto-tallying NFC system with a live LED bar graph combines physical sorting with digital data visualization.
