Ratio & Proportion (Smart Hydraulic Lever & Mechanical Advantage Scale)
Source:
Explore mechanical ratios! Build a dual-syringe hydraulic lever balance scale (10ml syringe vs 20ml syringe = 1:2 area ratio). Load cell sensors demonstrate how a small force on a large area lifts heavy weights effortlessly!
Categorisation
Props & Materials Required
- •Dual hydraulic syringe lever rig (10ml & 20ml water-filled syringes + flexible tubing)
- •2x HX711 load cell force sensors (Input Force vs Output Force)
- •ESP32 controller board
- •0.96-inch OLED display screen
- •DFPlayer Mini MP3 module + 3W speaker
Step-by-Step Instructions
Press 10ml Input Syringe
Press down on the small 10ml input syringe plunger. Input load cell reads 'Force: 500 grams'.
Observe 20ml Output Syringe Lift
Water pressure transfers to the large 20ml output syringe, lifting a 1000 gram weight!
Read Mechanical Ratio on OLED
Output load cell reads 'Force: 1,000 grams! Force Ratio: 1 : 2'.
Proportional Ratio Audio Explanation
OLED displays 'Ratio 500:1000 = 1:2 (MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE x2)'. Speaker explains how hydraulic car lifts raise heavy trucks using ratios!
Why It Works & Notes
Pascal's Law states that pressure applied to a fluid is transmitted equally. Combining 10ml and 20ml syringes creates a 1:2 surface area ratio, doubling output force and proving proportional math in physical hydraulics.
