Plant Parts & Solar Photosynthesis Powered Light Lab

Source:

Assemble a 3D wooden plant model with Roots, Stem, Leaves, and Flower. Connect a small solar panel to power a green 'Photosynthesis LED' and motor-driven water pump that simulates sap flowing up the stem.

Categorisation

Props & Materials Required

  • Wooden/cardboard plant model kit (Roots, Stem, Leaves, Flower)
  • Small 5V solar panel
  • 3V mini DC water pump / transparent tube stem
  • Green & Yellow LEDs
  • Capacitive soil moisture sensor
  • Magnifying glass

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Identify Plant Parts

Examine the model parts: Roots (absorb water), Stem (transports sap), Leaves (make food with sunlight), Flower (reproduction).

2

Shine Light on Solar Leaf

Shine a bright light/sunlight on the solar panel leaf. Green 'Photosynthesis LEDs' light up!

3

Watch Sap Flow Up Stem

Solar power drives the mini pump — watch colored water travel UP the transparent stem tube from roots to leaves!

4

Soil Moisture Probe Check

Insert moisture probe into root soil. Speaker: 'Roots have sufficient water! Plant is healthy!'

Why It Works & Notes

Plants use sunlight to produce food (photosynthesis) and roots draw water up the stem. A solar panel powering a water pump through a clear tube stem makes fluid transport and solar energy conversion visible.
