Create an interactive arcade game where students control a character on a projected screen using a physical Arcade Remote. To advance, they must jump along a digital number line or collect 'Tens' and 'Ones' blocks to form target numbers.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Set Up the Game

Open MakeCode Arcade on a computer. Create a simple platformer game with a character that stands on a number line from 0 to 20.

Program the Controls

Connect the micro:bit Arcade Remote. Program the buttons so pressing left/right moves the character along the number line, and pressing A 'jumps' to collect floating number blocks.

Design the Challenges

Create levels where the child must land on specific numbers. For example: 'Jump to the number that is 5 + 3' or 'Collect the Tens block and the Ones block to make 14.'

Project and Play

Connect to a projector or TV screen. The child uses the physical remote to play the math game on the big screen — making math feel like a video game!

Level Up

Add subtraction challenges, missing number puzzles, or timed rounds to increase difficulty as the child's confidence grows.
