Fun with Shapes (Smart Tangram Symmetry & Tiling Pattern Bot)

Source:

Arrange 7-piece wooden Tangram tiles on a smart magnetic grid. Color sensors read shape colors and check if the arrangement forms a line of symmetry or a seamless non-overlapping tiling pattern.

Categorisation

Props & Materials Required

  • 7-piece magnetic Tangram shape set
  • Smart grid baseboard with TCS3200 color sensors
  • ESP32 controller board
  • 0.96-inch OLED display
  • RGB NeoPixel ring
  • DFPlayer Mini MP3 module + 3W speaker

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Build Tangram Figure

Arrange Tangram pieces on the magnetic board to form a swan, house, or rocket.

2

Test Line of Symmetry

Place the mirror line down the center. TCS3200 color sensors scan left side vs. right side.

3

Symmetry Verification

If left and right halves match symmetrically — RGB NeoPixel ring lights up green! Speaker announces: 'PERFECT LINE OF SYMMETRY! Both sides mirror each other!'

4

Tessellation Tiling Challenge

Tile triangles and squares together without leaving gaps. Sensors confirm 100% floor coverage tessellation!

Why It Works & Notes

Exploring symmetry and tessellation (tiling without gaps) develops spatial intelligence. Color sensors verifying symmetrical tile placement provide immediate visual and acoustic feedback.
