Step-by-Step Instructions

Draw the Head

Draw a smiling caterpillar head on a large poster board.

Pick a Number Card

Pick an NFC-tagged number card between 21 and 99 (e.g. 36).

Tap to Expand

Tap the card on the NFC reader. Speaker says: '36 is 3 Tens and 6 Ones! 30 plus 6 equals 36!' Display shows the expanded form.

Build the Caterpillar

Write '30' on a yellow circle segment and '6' on a green segment. Glue them onto the poster as body segments.

Why It Works & Notes

Breaking 2-digit numbers into Tens and Ones prevents rote memorization. NFC-triggered audio expansion ('3 Tens and 6 Ones makes 36!') creates an auditory anchor for place value structure.
