Props & Materials Required

  • Stiff felt or thick cardstock (cut into a wristband shape)
  • Copper tape (conductive adhesive)
  • 3V Coin cell battery (CR2032)
  • 1x 5mm LED light (any color)
  • Velcro dots or sticky tack
  • Decorations (rhinestones, fabric markers, stickers)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Size the Wristband

Cut a strip of thick felt or cardstock that fits comfortably around your wrist with a little overlap. Add a Velcro dot to the ends so you can easily put it on and take it off.

Plan the Electronics

Lay the band flat. Mark exactly where you want the glowing LED jewel to sit on the top of your wrist. Mark where the battery will be hidden near the bottom of the wrist.

Run the Copper Wire

Draw two parallel lines from the battery spot to the LED spot. Stick your copper tape down carefully along these lines. If you have to go around a curve, try to fold the tape rather than tearing it to keep the electrical connection strong.

Mount the LED

Poke the legs of the LED through the fabric/paper. Bend the long positive leg onto one copper track, and the short negative leg onto the other track. Tape them down firmly.

Power & Wear!

Place the coin cell battery on the end of the tracks (matching positive to positive). Use a piece of clear tape or a small flap of felt to hold the battery down. Wrap it around your wrist, secure the Velcro, and show off your tech-fashion!

This is a fantastic introduction to 'Fashion Tech'. By building a circuit that curves around their wrist, kids learn about physical constraints in engineering (ensuring the copper tape doesn't snap when bent). It shows them that technology isn't just something you stare at on a screen; it's something you can wear and design yourself.

Parent Note:

Very safe, no-solder project. Ensure the copper tape tracks are wide enough so they don't tear when the bracelet bends around the wrist. AI Optional: Have kids use an AI image generator to brainstorm 'futuristic cyber-punk fashion accessories' before they design their bracelet!
