Air & Water (Wind Turbine Power & Pneumatic Lift Lab)
Source:
Blow air onto a DIY mini wind turbine to generate electricity that lights an LED city, and use water-filled syringes to operate a hydraulic pneumatic crane arm.
Categorisation
Props & Materials Required
- •Mini 3-blade wind turbine generator (DC motor generator)
- •LED bulb array (city lighting model)
- •2x 20ml plastic syringes connected by vinyl tubing
- •Cardboard crane arm mechanism
- •Analog voltage meter display / LED barometer
Step-by-Step Instructions
Blow on Wind Turbine
Use a fan or blow hard onto the wind turbine blades.
Watch City Lights Glow
As the turbine spins, generated electricity powers the LED city lights! Voltmeter shows generated voltage.
Pneumatic Syringe Lift
Push the water-filled master syringe plunger. Water pressure travels through the tube, extending the slave syringe to lift a heavy load!
Air vs. Water Compression Test
Compare pushing a syringe filled with AIR (spongy/compressible) vs. WATER (solid/incompressible).
Why It Works & Notes
Air exerts pressure and wind carries kinetic energy. Generating real electricity by blowing on a turbine and lifting objects using water pressure in connected syringes makes fluid power tangible.
